Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that he is ready for peace negotiations with Ukraine based on the agreements reached during the talks held between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul in 2022.

Russian President Vladimir Putin made a statement regarding potential peace negotiations with Ukraine during a cabinet meeting.

Putin indicated that he is ready for peace negotiations with Ukraine based on the agreements reached during the talks held between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul in 2022. Putin conveyed that any future diplomatic initiative with Ukraine must also be based on the realities on the ground, the conditions discussed at the summit he held with US President Donald Trump in Anchorage, Alaska, in August 2025, and the principles he outlined in his speech at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in June 2024.

Putin said, "Russia is ready for peace negotiations with Ukraine based on the agreements previously reached in Istanbul. Based on the agreements reached in Istanbul, the conditions discussed in Anchorage, and most importantly, the realities on the ground. Furthermore, this includes the principles I set forth in my speech at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs a few years ago."

Recalling that the Istanbul talks were initiated by the Ukrainian side, Putin stated that they contained "favorable" conditions for Ukraine but ended without reaching a compromise.
