Rebellion erupts against Shara administration in Syria: Mobilization declared against Israel

Attacks have been carried out against the jihadist Transitional Government regime in the Syrian city of Latakia. Violent clashes broke out between forces loyal to the regime and the insurgent groups 'Coastal Shield Regiment' and 'Syrian Popular Resistance.' While the Damascus administration claims to have brought the situation in Latakia under control, the groups that clashed with regime forces announced that they would 'continue their attacks.' It was stated that one of the HTS commanders, Abu Omar al-Jahishi, was killed in the clashes.

On the night of March 7, elements affiliated with the Syrian Transitional Government were simultaneously targeted at 'numerous points.' Footage from the region showed HTS militants preparing trenches on the Latakia-Aleppo highway and engaging in front-line warfare. HTS argued that the insurgent groups had been suppressed and that the 'security threat had passed.'

CALL FOR RESISTANCE IN THE SOUTH

The Syrian Popular Resistance announced that following the 'rebellion' it launched last night, it has declared a mobilization against Israel, which occupies the south of the country. While it is alleged that attacks were also carried out against the Israeli army, sources from Syria and Israel have not yet confirmed this claim.

Speaking to Al Jazeera, an HTS member reported that at least 15 militants affiliated with them had lost their lives in various armed ambushes. The clashes took place on Thursday near the town of Jableh in the Latakia countryside. It was alleged that the Transitional Government mobilized 55 thousand militants in the Latakia countryside to suppress the attacks.

'GREATEST SECURITY PROBLEM'

According to the report by the Syrian state news agency SANA, the Latakia Provincial Security Director confirmed that security forces clashed with armed groups affiliated with Suheil al-Hassan, the special forces commander of the Assad era. The Transitional Government announced that a curfew had been declared in Latakia and the coastal city of Tartus following the clashes.

Reporting from Damascus, Al Jazeera correspondent Resul Serdar stated that tension in the region has escalated following the attacks and made the following remarks:

'Since the fall of the Assad regime three months ago, this may be one of the greatest security problems the new government has faced.'

'COASTAL SHIELD REGIMENT' ESTABLISHED

The central government sent reinforcements consisting of 'dozens of military vehicles' to Latakia from provinces such as Hama, Homs, and Idlib. Serdar reported that shortly after the attack, a video released by an Assad-era commander announced the establishment of a resistance group called the 'Coastal Shield Regiment' against the new government.

Serdar noted that security forces in Latakia 'claimed' that they had brought the situation under control, that several of the attackers had been killed, and that 'many more' had been captured.
