Rebels kill 16 civilians in Congo
16 civilians lost their lives in an attack by rebels in the Ituri province in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

According to reports in the national press, members of the rebel group known as the Cooperative for the Development of the Congo (CODECO) carried out an armed attack on the village of Toko in the Banyali Kilo region of Ituri.
16 civilians lost their lives in the attack.
THOUSANDS OF CIVILIANS KILLED
It is estimated that thousands of civilians have been killed in attacks carried out by rebels in the east of the country since 2014.
The east of the DRC, which borders Rwanda, Uganda, and Burundi, has been the scene of attacks and clashes by armed groups attempting to gain control of mines such as gold and cobalt for over 20 years.
