Before the meeting, Trump stated that he has had a long-standing friendship with Erdoğan.
The US President said regarding their relationship, "[It continued even] during the time I was unfairly in exile, which was [the result of] a rigged election."
Immediately after, Trump pointed his index finger at Erdoğan and commented, "He knows more about rigged elections than anyone."
Trump later made remarks praising Erdoğan.
Describing Erdoğan as a "tough guy," Trump said, "I don't like people who have their own ideas very much, but I like him. He does a good job in his country, and our countries have a good relationship."
When Erdoğan took the floor after Trump, he did not make any comment regarding the US President's gesture pointing at him or his "rigged election" insinuation.
