Retaliation from Iran against US banks

Following the US targeting of two banks in Iran, retaliation from Iran against US banks has occurred. In a statement, Brigadier General Ali Mohammad Naini, spokesperson for the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), said, "In response to the enemy's attack on two Iranian banks, branches of US banks were targeted. If the enemy repeats this action, all US-owned bank branches in the region will be legitimate targets for us."

Drone attack on Citibank branches

The Lebanon-based television channel Al Mayadeen announced that branches of Citibank, one of the major US banks, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Manama, the capital of Bahrain, were targeted by unidentified unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) tonight. A source speaking to the channel stated that fires broke out at the branches in question as a result of the attacks carried out in the early hours of the morning.

Citibank, which operates in the UAE, had previously announced that it decided to temporarily close all its branches except for one for security reasons following threats that Iran might target financial institutions in the region.

Sepah Bank in Tehran had been targeted

On March 11, the US launched a missile attack on the digital security center belonging to the Iran-based Sepah Bank during attacks on the Iranian capital, Tehran. Following the attack, systems at Sepah Bank and Melli Bank collapsed, and online banking services were disabled. In a statement issued by the Iranian military after the attack, it was stated, "The enemy has attacked our financial sovereignty. From this moment on, all economic centers and banks belonging to the US and its allies in the region are our legitimate targets."
