Reward offered for killer

A 25 thousand dollar cash reward has been offered to find the killer of Imam Hassan Sharif, who lost his life after being subjected to an armed attack in front of the Masjid Muhammad-Newark Mosque in the city of Newark, New Jersey, early yesterday.

New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin stated in a press conference, "The evidence collected so far does not indicate that this was a bias-motivated act or an act of terrorism. I know that with the rise in prejudice against many communities living globally and across our state, especially the Muslim community, there are many people in New Jersey who are currently feeling fear and anxiety following the news of the murder. We are working with many of our partners and the police to ensure that justice is served."

Speaking at the press conference, Sheriff Armando Fontoura announced that a 25 thousand dollar reward would be given to anyone who shares information regarding the armed attack.

Following the announcement that Imam Hassan Sharif had lost his life after the attack, New Jersey Senator Cory Booker included the following in his message of condolence: "I am deeply saddened by the shooting death of Imam Hassan Sharif. I am closely following updates as the Newark and regional police conduct their investigation, and I hope that justice will be served swiftly. My heart is with the members of Masjid Muhammad and the Muslim community."

New York Mayor Eric Adams said, "An attack on a faith leader is felt throughout New York. While the motive for this attack remains suspicious, one thing is clear: our Muslim neighbors in New Jersey have been through a lot, and tonight we will join them in praying for Imam Hassan Sharif."
