Kasparov, a Russian citizen with a Jewish father and an Armenian mother, was the world chess champion between 1985 and 2000.
After ending his chess career in 2005, Kasparov became involved in political opposition movements against Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Having begun living abroad after some time, Kasparov obtained Croatian citizenship in 2014.
