Russia captures the city of Avdiivka in the Donetsk region

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu reported that the city of Avdiivka in the Donetsk region has been brought under the control of the Russian army.

In a statement from the Russian Ministry of Defense, it was noted that Shoigu met with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin Palace.

The statement, which conveyed that units belonging to the "Center" military group are continuing their attacks to capture other settlements in the Donetsk region, included the following: "Shoigu reported to Putin that the city of Avdiivka in the Donetsk People's Republic has been captured by the Russian army. In the last 24 hours, the Ukrainian army's losses in the clashes for Avdiivka amounted to 1,500 soldiers."

Ukraine's Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions were illegally annexed by a decree signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin on September 30, 2022.
