Russia claims 'Ukraine will sabotage the meeting'

The Russian Ministry of Defense has claimed that Ukraine is preparing to sabotage the meeting scheduled to take place between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday.

In a statement issued by the Russian Ministry of Defense, it was stated, "According to information obtained through various channels, the Kiev regime is preparing a provocation to sabotage the Russia-US talks planned for August 15, 2025."

The statement, which noted that the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) brought a group of foreign media personnel to the city of Chuhuiv in the Kharkiv region on August 11 under the pretext of preparing a news series about the residents of a city on the front line, said, "Ahead of the summit, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are expected to carry out a provocative attack with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and missiles on a crowded residential area or a hospital where many civilians are present. It is alleged that following this attack, Western journalists will immediately take footage and attempt to hold Russia responsible."

The statement, which suggested that the responsibility for the alleged attack would be blamed on Russia, added, "Thus, it is aimed at damaging efforts for a diplomatic solution to the Ukraine crisis between Russia and the US and creating a negative media perception. It is stated that similar provocations could also be carried out in other settlements under the control of the Kiev regime."
