Russia condemns Israeli attacks in Lebanon: 'The situation is alarming'

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova emphasized that the serious deterioration of the situation in Lebanon is extremely alarming. Zakharova recalled that on September 23, Israel launched airstrikes on Lebanon, dubbed "Northern Arrows," with the stated aim of targeting Hezbollah's military infrastructure.

Stating that many residential areas in southern and eastern Lebanon have been subjected to these attacks, Zakharova said, "Israel's indiscriminate attacks on residential areas under the pretext that Hezbollah weapons are stored there have led to significant civilian casualties and substantial destruction of civilian infrastructure." She specifically noted that a family of 10 lost their lives in a bombing raid by Israeli aircraft on the Bekaa Valley.

Firmly condemning the large-scale military attacks on Lebanon, Zakharova stated, "We want to emphasize that these indiscriminate attacks targeting civilians are unacceptable." She pointed out that the spiral of violence must be stopped immediately before the situation spirals completely out of control.

"We call for an immediate cessation of hostilities to prevent further bloodshed and to steer the situation toward a political and diplomatic solution," said Zakharova, adding that the international community must cooperate to prevent the Middle East from being dragged into a large-scale armed conflict.

While expressing their readiness to coordinate with international and regional partners to prevent a potential catastrophe in the Middle East, Zakharova remarked, "We proceed from the fact that the security of no state in the region should be ensured at the expense of others." These statements were made in an environment where regional tensions are rising and the dangers faced by civilians are increasing.
