Russia has introduced partial restrictions on voice calls made via Telegram and WhatsApp. Roskomnadzor announced that this step was taken to combat criminal activity.

Partial restrictions have begun to be applied to voice calls made via Telegram and WhatsApp in Russia. Information regarding the matter was announced to the public by the Roskomnadzor Press Service.

In its statement, Roskomnadzor noted, “We inform you that, in order to combat criminals and in accordance with information received from law enforcement agencies, measures have been taken to impose partial restrictions on calls within these foreign messaging applications. No restrictions are being placed on other functions of these applications.”
