It has been reported that Russia has launched a counteroffensive along a front line spanning dozens of kilometers in the Kursk region, which is occupied by Ukraine.
Russian forces launched an attack against Ukrainian forces this morning (September 12). While no information has yet been released regarding the scale of the attack, international war monitoring organizations have stated that the offensive is 'very large-scale'.
As Russia's attack began simultaneously from all directions in the Kursk region, Russian forces have made significant progress in occupied Kursk within the few hours since the offensive began.
The Institute for the Study of War (ISW), which monitors the war, noted in its report that the Russian army has recaptured dozens of square kilometers of territory, although the exact extent of the Russian advance is not yet clear.

In a statement made by Ukrainian Army officials, it was announced that they are responding to the Russian offensive, while noting that the clashes have not yet ended.
Russia had also captured four settlements in the Donetsk Oblast, which it has seized in Ukraine, in recent days.
High-ranking Russian military officials stated in comments to Russia's official state news agency TASS that they were forcing Ukrainian forces to retreat in a 'slow but steady' manner.
Conversely, the Ukrainian side denies claims that they are in a difficult situation on the front line.
