Russia's missile and drone attack on Kyiv and its surroundings: At least 4 people lost their lives

Ukrainian officials reported that at least 4 people lost their lives and more than 12 were injured in intense attacks carried out by Russia on the capital Kyiv and its surroundings using missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles.

Tymur Tkachenko, Head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, announced in a statement on Telegram that the region was the target of a “large-scale attack carried out with missiles and attack UAVs” throughout the night.

The Kyiv City Military Administration announced that 3 people lost their lives and more than 5 people were injured in the attack on the capital. In the city of Boryspil, east of Kyiv, it was stated that a workplace was damaged, one person was killed, and one person was injured.

Tkachenko also reported that 8 more people were injured as a result of a residential building being targeted. The Ukrainian Air Force warned that the threat of ballistic weapons and other air attack vehicles continued during the attacks, calling on the public to remain in shelters.

SECURITY WARNING ON BACK-TO-SCHOOL DAY

The attacks coincided with the period when Ukrainian children are preparing to return to school after the summer break. The Kyiv regional administration warned that large-scale events should be avoided in areas where the risk level is high.

The capital and surrounding settlements have been under intense pressure from Russian air attacks in recent weeks. According to officials, while the use of jet-powered drones increases the threat, multiple air raid sirens can be triggered in the region throughout the day.

As the parties have increased their long-range attacks in recent months, infrastructure targets such as warehouses, businesses, oil and port facilities, and ships are also at the center of the attacks. These attacks are also growing concerns regarding civilian casualties.

Ukraine states that it is experiencing serious shortages in its stocks of interceptor missiles, including the US-made Patriot systems used specifically against ballistic threats. The Kyiv administration is requesting more support from its allies to strengthen its air defense against the attacks, which it says occur almost every night.
