Russia has issued a harsh response to the statements made by British Foreign Secretary David Cameron during his visit to Ukraine.
The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that if Ukraine attacks Russian territory with British weapons, British military assets could be struck both inside and outside of Ukraine.
A statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry has escalated tensions with the UK. The ministry's statement recalled that British Foreign Secretary David Cameron had stated in an interview with Reuters that "Ukraine has the right to attack targets on Russian soil with British weapons."
A HARSH RESPONSE FROM RUSSIA
Noting that for this reason, the British Ambassador to Moscow, Nigel Casey, was summoned to the Ministry and handed a protest note, the statement included the following remarks:
"Cameron's hostile statement contradicts the previous commitments made by the UK that long-range cruise missiles provided to Ukraine would not be used against Russian territory. By rejecting this approach, Cameron has effectively admitted that his country is a party to the conflict.
The Russian side views Cameron's remarks as evidence of serious escalation and confirmation that London is taking the side of Kyiv in the conflict. In response to any attacks by Ukraine on Russian territory using British weapons, any British military assets and equipment located in Ukraine or outside of Ukraine could be struck."
