Russia has taken action to remove the Taliban from its list of terrorist organizations following the group's seizure of power in Afghanistan in 2021.
The State Duma, the lower house of the Russian parliament, has approved a bill that will make it possible to remove the Taliban from the list of terrorist organizations.
According to the approved bill, the ban on the activities of organizations included in the list of terrorist organizations can be lifted by Russian courts.
In line with the decision of Russian courts, official contacts can be established between the Taliban and the Russian government, and Russian citizens will also be able to work with the Taliban. Russia had added the Taliban to its “terrorist organization” list in 2003.
