Russia-US tension over the Norwegian Sea
The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that they scrambled a MiG-31 fighter jet for a US Navy P-8A Poseidon patrol aircraft over the Norwegian Sea.

In a statement from the ministry, it was stated that air defense assets over the Norwegian Sea detected an aerial target approaching the Russian state border.
The statement noted that a MiG-31 fighter jet from the Russian Northern Fleet's Air Force was scrambled to identify the target and prevent a violation of Russian state borders, adding, "The crew of the Russian fighter jet identified the aerial target as a US Navy P-8A Poseidon patrol aircraft."
The statement reported that the US aircraft turned away from the national border upon the approach of the Russian fighter jet, and noted that there was no violation of the Russian state border.
The statement further indicated that the Russian fighter jet did not approach the US aircraft in a dangerous manner and carried out its flight in accordance with international rules regarding the use of airspace over neutral waters.
