Russian UAV crashes into an apartment building in NATO member Romania!
A fire broke out after a Russian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) struck an apartment building in the Romanian city of Galati, leaving 2 people injured. Following the incident, Romanian Air Force fighter jets were scrambled, and an emergency alert was sent to local residents.

As the Russia-Ukraine war continues, an incident has occurred in Romania that has heightened security concerns. The Romanian Ministry of Defense announced that a Russian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) struck an apartment building in the city of Galati.
UAV CRASHED INTO THE ROOF OF THE APARTMENT
The ministry stated that the incident took place on the night of May 28-29. The statement noted that Russia had launched new UAV attacks on civilian and infrastructure targets in Ukraine located near the river border with Romania.
Romanian authorities reported that one of the UAVs in question entered the country's airspace, was tracked by radar systems as far as the south of Galati, and subsequently struck the roof of an apartment building, causing a fire.
FIGHTER JETS SCRAMBLED
It was announced that 2 Romanian F-16 fighter jets and 1 IAR 330 SOCAT helicopter were scrambled as a precautionary measure following the incident. Furthermore, it was noted that emergency alert messages were sent to citizens in the region via the RO-Alert system.
FIRE EXTINGUISHED, 2 PEOPLE INJURED
In a statement issued by the Romanian Emergency Service, it was stated that the fire in the apartment building was brought under control through the intervention of firefighting teams. It was reported that 2 people were injured in the incident.
Given that Romania is a NATO member, the incident is considered to have brought concerns about the war potentially spilling over into alliance territory back to the agenda.
