Sanctions from India to Pakistan: Tensions continue to escalate
Following an attack in Jammu and Kashmir that claimed the lives of 26 people, India has suspended all trade with Pakistan. Postal, cargo, and port access have also been banned.

Following a bloody attack in the Pahalgam region of Jammu and Kashmir, India has announced a comprehensive package of economic sanctions against Pakistan. As a result of the diplomatic tension that escalated after the attack, the New Delhi administration has halted all imports from Pakistan until further notice.
According to the Indian television channel NDTV, a notification issued by the Indian Ministry of Commerce stated, "The import of all goods originating from or exported from Pakistan, whether direct or indirect, or in transit, is prohibited until further notice, regardless of whether they fall under free import categories." It was stated that the ban has come into effect immediately, and it was emphasized that the decision was taken on the grounds of "national security and public policy."
Medicines, fruits, and oilseeds are among the primary products covered by the import ban.
TRANSPORTATION AND COMMUNICATION TARGETED ALONGSIDE TRADE
The New Delhi administration has restricted not only trade but also communication and logistics. The receipt of all mail and cargo sent from Pakistan by air and land has been suspended. At the same time, a ban has been imposed on the entry of ships flying the Pakistani flag into Indian ports, while ships flying the Indian flag are also prohibited from visiting Pakistani ports.
BLOODY ATTACK ESCALATED TENSIONS
On April 22, 26 people lost their lives and many others were injured in an attack by armed individuals on a group of tourists in the Pahalgam region of Jammu and Kashmir. India had claimed that the attackers came from Pakistan. Based on this claim, India has suspended diplomatic and economic relations one after another.
In this context, India announced that it has suspended the Indus Waters Treaty and requested that Pakistani undersecretaries serving in New Delhi leave the country within a week. It also stopped issuing visas to Pakistani citizens and declared previously issued visas invalid.

The Islamabad administration, for its part, rejected India's accusations. Following the decisions taken by India, the Pakistani government announced that restrictions had been placed on Indian diplomatic personnel in the country and declared that any interference outside the scope of the Indus Waters Treaty would be considered a "cause for war." In response, Pakistan also halted all commercial relations with India and closed its airspace to India.
