The Saudi-led coalition forces announced that the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen carried out a drone attack targeting electrical infrastructure near Medina.
Coalition spokesperson Major General Turki al-Maliki stated in his announcement that an electrical substation located in the Taiba region near Medina was targeted by a drone on Tuesday.
Describing the attack as a "cowardly act of terrorism," Al-Maliki said that evidence obtained from investigations at the scene points to the attack being carried out by the Houthis. Stating that the substation was disabled as a result of the attack, Al-Maliki added that there was no disruption to the power grid in the region. The spokesperson noted that the substation in question is part of the infrastructure providing electricity to the Prophet's Mosque (Al-Masjid an-Nabawi).
Accusing the Houthis of deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure, Al-Maliki said that attempts are being made to provoke Muslims with attacks on the holy cities of Mecca and Medina. Al-Maliki stated that coalition forces will continue to take all necessary measures to deter Houthi attacks and ensure the safety of visitors as well as the holy sites in Mecca and Medina.
The Houthis have not yet made any statement regarding the incident.
