Scheduled flights between Germany and Syria resume after 14 years
The flight from Düsseldorf to Damascus marks the beginning of a new era between the two countries following the civil aviation agreement signed on July 16.

Scheduled air travel between Germany and Syria has resumed after a hiatus of approximately 14 years. The inaugural flight, operated by the Germany-based LEAV Aviation, took place from Düsseldorf to the Syrian capital, Damascus.
The passenger aircraft took off from Düsseldorf and landed at Damascus International Airport. The flight was the first scheduled service to take place following the civil aviation agreement signed between the two countries on July 16.
Markus Hicken, Chargé d'Affaires of the German Embassy in Damascus, stated that the flights are the “first concrete result” of the agreement in the field of civil aviation. Hicken indicated that there are plans to launch scheduled flights to Aleppo in the future.
Recalling that Germany has hosted more than one million Syrian refugees during the civil war, Hicken said that the Berlin administration would continue to support Syria's recovery process.
The resumption of scheduled flights after approximately 14 years is considered a new step in terms of transportation and diplomatic relations between the two countries.
