School shooting in the US

Multiple people have lost their lives in a shooting at Apalachee High School in the city of Winder, located in the US state of Georgia.

Officials, who were not named, stated that the number of people who lost their lives in the attack has risen to 4.

It was stated that at least 4 people were injured in the attack, and that some of the injured were hurt while fleeing and did not have gunshot wounds.

In a statement made by the White House, it was noted that President Joe Biden has been briefed on the incident and that his administration will continue to coordinate with federal, state, and local officials as more information becomes available.

Meanwhile, police had detained 1 person in connection with the attack.

SUSPECT IDENTIFIED IN THE SHOOTING

It has been announced that the suspect in the shooting in the US state of Georgia, which left four people dead, is 14-year-old student Colt Gray.

Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Director Chris Hosey, who held a press conference regarding the shooting at Apalachee High School in the city of Winder, Georgia, announced that the suspect in the attack, which left two students and two teachers dead and nine others injured, is 14-year-old male student Colt Gray. In a statement published by the GBI on social media, it was announced that the suspect is alive and in custody.

Reports in the US media stated that the school received a threatening phone call today, and that the caller said there would be shootings at five different schools today, with Apalachee being the first. Security forces are continuing their investigation into the source of the threat call. Following the attack, high security measures were taken at all schools in Barrow County, where the school is located. FBI Atlanta spokesperson Tony Thomas announced that the FBI is monitoring the situation and that FBI units are on the ground providing support to local law enforcement.

US President Joe Biden also released a statement regarding the shooting. In the statement, Biden said, “Jill and I are mourning the lives of those lost due to senseless gun violence. Our hearts are with the survivors and the victims whose lives have been forever changed. What should have been a joyous back-to-school season in Winder, Georgia, has now turned into another horrific reminder of how gun violence continues to tear our communities apart. Students across the country are learning how to duck and cover instead of learning to read and write. We cannot continue to accept this as normal.”

According to data from the Gun Violence Archive, an organization that collects data on firearm violence in the US, a total of 385 mass shootings, in which at least four or more people were shot, have taken place in the US just this year.
