Second arrest attempt for Yoon, who was removed from the presidency in South Korea
In South Korea, it has been reported that officials from the Corruption Investigation Office (CIO) have gone to the presidential residence for the second time to execute the arrest warrant for Yoon Suk Yeol, who was removed from his presidential duties.

According to Yonhap news, CIO officials have taken action for the second time to implement the arrest warrant for Yoon.
The officials who went to the presidential residence were blocked by barricades set up by the Presidential Security Service.
While approximately 6,500 people supporting Yoon gathered around the residence, lawmakers from the ruling People Power Party (PPP) also came together in front of the residence to protest the decision.
Additionally, there are approximately 3,000 police officers around the residence, and it is stated that the arrest warrant will remain valid until January 21.
It had been reported earlier in the day that the military unit guarding the presidential residence had approved the entry of police and CIO officials into the residence.
The Seoul Western District Court issued an arrest warrant on December 31, 2024, for Yoon Suk Yeol, who was removed from his presidential duties during an investigation into allegations of "insurrection" and "abuse of power," but the warrant could not be executed after a scuffle broke out between the police who went to the official residence and the security guards.

President Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial law on the night of December 3, 2024, in a televised address, citing that "the opposition was involved in anti-state activities," but he took a step back after the parliament voted to lift the decision and it was approved by the Council of Ministers.
Yoon, who faced an impeachment motion by the National Assembly, was temporarily suspended from his duties until the Constitutional Court reaches a decision, and Prime Minister Han Duck-soo was appointed as acting president.
Following an initiative by the opposition, an impeachment motion was also passed in the National Assembly on December 27, 2024, against Prime Minister Han, who was acting as president. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Choi Sang-mok assumed the acting presidency in place of Han.
