Security breach identified in Iran port explosion

The investigation committee established following the explosion that occurred last Saturday at the Shahid Rajaee Port in the city of Bandar Abbas, in Iran's Hormozgan province, has released its first assessment report on the incident.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Interior's Information Center, it was reported that the initial report, prepared following meetings with experts and specialists, identified that security measures and civil defense regulations had been violated.

The statement indicated that false and contradictory statements regarding the matter had been identified, and that security and judicial units are continuing their efforts to determine those responsible. It was noted that a comprehensive investigation into all aspects of the incident is required to determine the exact cause, and that this process necessitates the completion of technical and laboratory work. Emphasizing that the necessary procedures have been initiated, the statement added that the results will be shared with the public as soon as the process is complete.

The statement further emphasized that there will be no compromise regarding individuals found to be at fault in the incident, and requested that citizens follow developments regarding the event only through the committee chaired by the Governor of Hormozgan.

A fire broke out following the explosion at the port, and fire, medical, and search-and-rescue teams were dispatched to the scene. It was reported that the fire at the port was completely extinguished and that search-and-rescue operations were ongoing. It has been announced that 70 people have lost their lives and 1,210 people have been injured in the explosion so far.
