Security measures had been increased at the border: Iran deported more than 500 thousand Afghan migrants
More than 500 thousand irregular migrants who fled from Afghanistan to Iran since the Taliban took control have been deported by Iran.

Iran reported that it has sent 546 thousand irregular Afghan migrants back to their country in the last 10 months. The statement noted that measures have been taken to prevent illegal entries.
According to last year's figures in Iran, there are 2 million 788 thousand refugees, 2 million 700 thousand of whom are Afghan. The number of irregular migrants is estimated to be between 5 and 7 million.
According to Iran's official news agency IRNA, President Masoud Pezeshkian, who took office on July 30, and his government have taken steps to prevent illegal migration.
Regarding the deportation decisions, Deputy Police Chief of Razavi Khorasan Province Amirullah Shamkadri stated, 'In the last 10 months, 586 thousand Afghan irregular migrants were sent to their country through the Dogharun Border Crossing.'
The Iranian official noted that illegal crossings have decreased by approximately half compared to last year due to the increase in fencing and necessary equipment at the border.
