Serbian President Vucic announces: Mandatory military service to be 75 days

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic stated that he has accepted the proposal submitted to him to make mandatory military service in the country 75 days.

In his speech at a promotion ceremony organized by the Serbian Armed Forces in the capital, Belgrade, Vucic said that Serbia needs a strong army.

Stating that he has signed the proposal submitted to him by the General Staff regarding the implementation of mandatory military service for a duration of 75 days, Vucic said, "I believe the Serbian government will also accept this. I would also like to clarify one thing. We have no intention of attacking anyone, and we will not do such a thing."

'WOMEN CAN ALSO JOIN THE MILITARY VOLUNTARILY'

In a previous statement, Vucic had given the green light for mandatory military service for men to be 60 plus 15 days and had stated that women could also join the military "voluntarily."

Meanwhile, a parliamentary vote held in Serbia in 2010 had resulted in a decision to end mandatory military service.
