Spanish parliament approves arms embargo on Israel

The Spanish parliament has voted on a bill to impose an arms embargo on Israel. The bill, which was announced last month by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, was approved in the parliamentary vote by 178 votes to 169.

The legislation states that Israel's attacks on the Gaza Strip are characterized by most experts as genocide and that the attacks are indiscriminate. The law bans the export and import of all military equipment and technologies to Israel, the transit of aviation fuel that could be used in Israeli fighter jets through the country, and the advertising of products produced in illegal Jewish settlements in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

On the other hand, the Spanish government had already halted the purchase and sale of arms to and from Israel since October 7, 2023, when Israel's attacks on the Gaza Strip began.
