The Airbus A310 state aircraft carrying Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, who was traveling to the Armenian capital of Yerevan to attend the European Political Community meeting, experienced a technical problem during the flight. Consequently, the flight crew decided to make an emergency landing in Ankara in accordance with standard procedures. Officials stated that the malfunction was not serious, but that they acted in compliance with safety protocols.
TRANSFERRED TO ANKARA
It has been learned that Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez will spend the night in Ankara following the forced landing and, provided there are no changes to his schedule, will continue his journey early the next morning.
Sanchez, who has experienced a similar situation in the past, was unable to physically attend a meeting regarding Ukraine scheduled to take place in Paris last year due to a technical issue with his plane, and instead participated in the meeting via an online connection. In that incident, the official Falcon-type aircraft had been forced to return to Madrid.
