State of emergency declared in Thailand's capital
A state of emergency has been declared in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, following earthquakes that occurred today in the South Asian country of Myanmar and were also felt in neighboring countries.

Following the 7.7 and 6.4 magnitude earthquakes that occurred 16 kilometers northwest of the city of Sagaing in Myanmar today at 12:50 local time, neighboring countries have also gone on high alert.
The earthquake caused chaos in Bangkok, the capital of neighboring Thailand, which has a population of approximately 17 million.
Following an emergency meeting held by the Thai government after the earthquake, a state of emergency was declared in Bangkok for 1 day. A decision was made to evacuate rail transport systems, shopping malls, and high-rise buildings as a precautionary measure.
NO DAMAGE OTHER THAN THE COLLAPSED SKYSCRAPER
Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra went to the site of the collapsed building in Bangkok to receive information about search and rescue efforts. In a statement to the press at the wreckage site, Shinawatra gave a message of support to neighboring Myanmar, the epicenter of the earthquake, and provided information about the latest situation across Thailand.
In her statement, Shinawatra noted that the earthquake occurred 900 km away from Bangkok, but that the public experienced panic due to 12 different aftershocks that followed, and stated that there was no damage in the capital other than the building that collapsed while under construction.
The area around the collapsed building, which is located in the Chathucak district of Bangkok and is reported to have been 30 stories high, has been completely cordoned off, and it was determined that over 80 workers and supervisors were at the construction site at the time of the incident.
