Statement from the Ministry of Trade regarding Syria's new tax regulation! 'Face-to-face meeting to be held'

The Ministry of Trade has issued a statement regarding the new customs tax system implemented by Syria. While the ministry noted that consultations are being held with the Syrian side regarding customs duties, it was stated, "As a continuation of the discussions, a face-to-face meeting is planned for next week." With the changes made by the new Syrian government, there have been high increases in customs duties on goods imported from Turkey.

As truck queues have formed at border gates, the business world has reported experiencing difficulties in exports.

APPLIED UNIFORMLY AT ALL BORDER GATES AND CUSTOMS OFFICES

The following statements were included in the announcement made by the Ministry:

"The new Syrian administration transitioned to a uniform taxation system at all customs offices across the country on 11.01.2025. This tax system, which has been put into effect, is being applied in the same manner at all of Syria's border gates and customs offices.

Our country is conducting joint efforts regarding the implementation of the economic development process in Syria, ensuring that the Syrian people have access to the products they need under favorable conditions, and delivering the products needed within the scope of Syria's reconstruction activities to the country. In this context, in line with the assessments regarding the latest customs tax regulation, discussions have been and continue to be held with Syria in the fields of trade, customs, and foreign policy.

EMPHASIS ON A COMPREHENSIVE FREE TRADE AGREEMENT 

Finally, in the discussions held yesterday, consultations were conducted with the Syrian side regarding customs duties. As a continuation of the discussions, a face-to-face meeting is planned for next week. On the other hand, our willingness to implement a new and this time more comprehensive free trade agreement between our countries has also been mutually shared.

Our country's firms will continue to actively contribute throughout the entire process of the new Syrian government's development efforts. In this process, we would like to emphasize once again that we are ready to cooperate with our Syrian brothers and sisters in line with common goals."
