Statement on Trump from Maxwell, who was tried as Epstein's accomplice
The Department of Justice has released audio recordings and transcripts of a conversation between Ghislaine Maxwell, the only person to be tried or held legally responsible for her role in Epstein's crimes, and a high-ranking federal prosecutor.

According to the records of the conversation with Deputy Assistant Attorney General Todd Blanche, Maxwell claimed that Epstein did not have a "client list."
Maxwell also reiterated her past statements that she does not believe Epstein committed suicide.
Furthermore, when asked if she knew US President Donald Trump, Maxwell stated that she did know him and that they likely met for the first time in 1990, during the period when her father, Robert Maxwell, owned the New York Daily News.
The transcripts of the meeting include Maxwell's statement: "I may have met Donald Trump at that time, because my father was friends with him and liked him very much."
Emphasizing that her father also liked Trump's ex-wife, Ivana Trump, very much, Maxwell added, "Because she was also from my father's home country of Czechoslovakia."
On the other hand, the US media evaluated the Department of Justice's release as "a final effort by the Trump administration to heal the political wounds it opened itself with conspiracy theories and bold statements that never materialized."
Maxwell was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2021 after being tried for helping Epstein traffic underage girls. Maxwell, whose appeal process is ongoing, had stated that she was ready to testify to both federal prosecutors and the US Congress.
