In Spain, a criminal organization that stole the bodies of the destitute from hospitals using forged documents and sold them to medical schools has been dismantled.

According to an AA report, four Spanish men aged between 41 and 74 were arrested in an operation conducted by the Spanish National Police in the city for the crime of stealing and selling corpses.
In a statement shared by the police, it was noted that the criminal organization took delivery of bodies belonging to individuals who died in hospitals or nursing homes by preparing forged documents and sold them to medical schools to be used as cadavers.
Spanish police noted that the investigation was launched after it was discovered that the body of a person who died in early 2023 was irregularly removed from a hospital morgue in Valencia by a funeral home, and that there was forgery in the hospital registry and documents submitted to the civil registry office.
The statement indicated that the criminal organization in question tracked individuals who were destitute, elderly, or at high risk, and after their deaths, they took the bodies using forged documents and sold them to medical schools for 1,200 euros each.
