Super typhoon hits China: Deaths and injuries reported

Super Typhoon Yagi, which formed in the South China Sea, has reached the southern parts of China. As a result of the typhoon hitting the mainland, 2 people lost their lives and 92 others were injured.

In recent days, Typhoon Yagi had also been effective in the island regions of the Philippines. Following the Philippines, Super Typhoon Yagi struck southern China. The super typhoon, which first made landfall in Hainan province and then in Guangdong province, has negatively affected life in the country. Due to winds reaching speeds of 234 kilometers per hour, trees were uprooted, windows of homes and businesses were shattered, and roofs were blown off houses. More than 800 thousand homes in the province were left without electricity. It was reported that 2 people lost their lives in the Ding’an region of Hainan province, while 12 people were injured in the city of Wenchang and 80 people were injured in Haikou. In the cities of Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Yangjiang in Guangdong province, education in schools was suspended yesterday, and the start date for universities was postponed.

Following China, the typhoon made landfall in northern Vietnam at 13:00 local time. Power outages occurred in the city of Haiphong, the country's industrial hub. While approximately 50 thousand people were evacuated from coastal towns, 450 thousand military personnel were deployed to combat the disaster. More than 300 flights were canceled in total at 4 airports in the country.
As a result of the floods and landslides caused by Typhoon Yagi hitting the Philippines last weekend, 16 people had lost their lives.
