Last week, a preliminary agreement was signed between the parties aimed at ending conflicts and reaching a permanent consensus. However, the statements indicate that the two sides have yet to reach an agreement on critical issues.

The Iranian administration welcomed this temporary exemption, which paves the way for energy exports, and the promise of a new development fund following years of economic sanctions. However, Tehran warned that if Israel's military actions in Lebanon continue, it would keep its leverage over the Strait of Hormuz on the table.

In light of these developments, the Washington administration maintains its concerns regarding Iran's oil-based revenue, and President Trump was asked whether this exemption granted to Iran was related to the release of the country's frozen assets abroad. The President's response was interpreted as conflating the two issues.

Furthermore, when asked how Iran's oil revenues would be prevented from being used in military areas, Trump stated, "They shouldn't be doing that." In his statement at the White House, Trump added, "They should be using that money to buy food for their people, because their people are very hungry right now."
