A search operation involving hundreds of police officers across 4 cities was underway to find 40-year-old Robert Card. Card's lifeless body was found near a recycling facility in a rural area. It is believed that the attacker committed suicide.

Previously, it was reported that the attacker's vehicle, weapon, and a note believed to be a suicide letter had been discovered.

In Maine, a largely rural state located near the northeastern border of Canada, it is stated that half of the adults own firearms. No license is required to carry a weapon in the state.
