Sweden: 'Our citizen was executed in Iran today'
Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard announced that a Swedish citizen, who was detained in June of last year, was executed in Iran today.

Following the execution of an individual in Iran today on charges of spying for Israel's foreign intelligence agency, Mossad, a statement has been issued by Sweden.
Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard confirmed that the executed individual was a Swedish citizen. Stenergard stated that the unnamed person was detained in Iran in June of last year and that Sweden had repeatedly discussed the matter with Iranian authorities.
Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard said, "The death penalty is an inhumane, cruel, and irreversible punishment. Sweden, along with the rest of the European Union, condemns its application under any circumstances." Stenergard further stated that the legal process leading to the execution did not meet the standards of a fair trial.
A report published today by the Mizan News Agency, affiliated with the Iranian Judiciary, stated that an individual named Kurosh Keyvani was found guilty of providing images and information regarding sensitive locations in Iran to Mossad and was sentenced to death. It was reported that Keyvani's death sentence was carried out this morning following the legal process and approval by the Supreme Court. It was noted that Keyvani was recruited by Israeli intelligence via the internet and that the initial contact was established by a Persian-speaking Mossad operative.
