In the US, Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson announced that a 13-member team has been formed to conduct an in-depth investigation into the assassination attempt on Republican Party candidate Donald Trump. In his statement, Johnson said, "The security failures that allowed an assassination attempt on the life of Donald Trump are shocking."

Republican Johnson continued his statement as follows: "In response, Congressman Hakeem Jeffries and I are announcing the formation of a House Task Force consisting of 7 Republicans and 6 Democrats to investigate the matter thoroughly. The task force will have subpoena authority and will move quickly to find the facts, ensure accountability, and ensure that such failures never happen again."

Trump was the target of an assassination attempt on July 13 while speaking in Butler County, Pennsylvania. The attacker was shot and killed by security forces, while Trump was wounded in the upper part of his right ear.
