Taxi drivers in France block highway leading to Paris
In France, taxi drivers blocked traffic on the highway leading to Paris to protest a provision in the social security law that took effect on February 1, which introduces new regulations regarding medical transportation.

According to reports in the national press, taxi drivers, reacting to a provision in the law that requires patients to share vehicles for medical transportation or face deductions from their social security coverage, blocked the A13 highway in the direction of Paris.
National Taxi Federation President Emmanuelle Cordier stated that they began blocking the roads as of 07:30 local time and that approximately 300 taxi drivers would participate in the protest on the A13 highway.
Taxi drivers also held protests in the cities of Toulouse, Lyon, and Nimes to oppose the law.
GOVERNMENT AIMS TO REDUCE CARBON FOOTPRINT
The government aims to reduce transportation costs and the carbon footprint with this practice.
The law, which was approved on December 4, 2023, provides exemptions for psychiatric cases, patients with infectious diseases, and patients for whom a doctor has recommended individual travel.
