Technical meeting between Iran and the US postponed

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei stated that the technical-level meeting scheduled for tomorrow in Muscat, the capital of Oman, ahead of the third round of nuclear negotiations with the US, has been postponed.

Baghaei announced that, in line with Oman's proposal and the mutual agreement of the Iranian and US delegations, the technical meeting originally planned for tomorrow will now be held on Saturday with the participation of the heads of both countries' delegations.

TECHNICAL MEETING

Following the conclusion of the second round of indirect nuclear-related negotiations, Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi stated, "This Wednesday, a technical meeting at the expert level will be held in Oman. In the technical-level meeting, expert delegations will delve into the details to establish the necessary framework for an agreement. Afterwards, we will meet again in Oman on Saturday to discuss the technical-level meeting and evaluate how close we are to an agreement."

EXPECTATIONS OF THE PARTIES

Negotiations between the US and Iran are seen as processes aimed first at building mutual trust, and then at establishing a framework toward an agreement on Iran's nuclear program.

The US wants Iran to stop the production of highly enriched uranium, which it believes is used in the construction of nuclear weapons.

Iran, which maintains that its nuclear program has always been peaceful, states that it is ready to "restrict" its nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of sanctions, while demanding guarantees that the US will not backtrack.

Iran is not keen on dismantling uranium enrichment centrifuges, stopping uranium enrichment entirely, or reducing its enriched uranium stockpile to levels below those agreed upon in the 2015 deal.
