Israeli military spokesperson Daniel Hagari issued a written statement regarding the rising tensions with Iran after it was announced that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps had seized a Portuguese-flagged cargo ship alleged to be linked to Israel.
"THEY WILL BEAR THE CONSEQUENCES"
"Iran will bear the consequences for choosing to escalate the situation further. Israel is on high alert." Hagari stated, noting that Israel has "increased its readiness and is prepared to respond" to any attack from Iran.
According to the Tasnim News Agency, the Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy had seized a cargo ship in the Persian Gulf that it claimed was linked to Israel.
It was alleged that the Portuguese-flagged ship named "MSC Aries" belongs to Israeli businessman Eyal Ofer, the owner of the London-based company "Zodiac Maritime."
IRAN-ISRAEL TENSIONS
Israel had carried out an airstrike on April 1 on the consular building located within the Iranian embassy compound in Damascus. A total of 7 people, including 2 generals from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, were killed in the attack.
Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei stated that Israel's attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus meant an attack on his country's territory, using the phrase, "The evil regime made a mistake, it must be punished and it will be punished."
US President Joe Biden also stated that they would continue to provide "unwavering" support to Tel Aviv in the face of Iran's threats of attack against Israel.
Israeli Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz had declared, "If Iran attacks us from its own territory, we will respond and attack Iran."
