Terrorist organization SDF had been dissolved: Mazlum Abdi is moving to Damascus

Details regarding the new role of Mazlum Abdi, who was appointed as a Presidential Advisor following the announcement that the SDF had been dissolved in Syria, have emerged. A source close to Abdi, speaking to Al Arabiya, claimed that Abdi plans to leave Hasakah in the coming weeks and settle permanently in Damascus.

According to the report, Abdi, who was appointed by a decree issued a few days ago by Syria's interim President Ahmed Shara, has not yet officially started his duties. It was stated that Abdi has been staying at a base belonging to the US-led international coalition in Hasakah, where he has been for a long time.

Sources stated that it is expected that some issues on the ground will be concluded before Abdi moves to Damascus. These files include the return of displaced Kurds to their cities and the handover of heavy weapons remaining in the hands of the dissolved SDF to the Syrian army.

SCOPE OF THE NEW ROLE

Ahmed Shara's decree did not provide details regarding Abdi's duties and powers. However, a source close to the matter suggested that Abdi's role would be limited to the "management of the Kurdish file inside and outside Syria."

In this context, it was stated that Abdi would monitor the work of the constitutional and legal commissions planned to be established in the future. It is expected that the status of Kurds in the Syrian Constitution will be addressed in these commissions. It was also noted that Abdi could take on a role in coordinating contacts to be carried out with Kurdish actors outside of Syria.

The report also included a notable claim regarding Turkey. A source close to the Syrian government argued that there are plans for Ankara to remove Mazlum Abdi's name from terror lists. According to the same source, the Damascus administration is continuing its contacts with Ankara on this issue through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In Al Arabiya's report, it was also claimed that Siban Hamo, who was previously part of the SDF and was later appointed as Deputy Minister of Defense of Syria, has also been removed from Turkey's terror list.

Changes to Abdi's social media account were also pointed to as signs of the new era. According to the report, Abdi removed the SDF flag from the cover photo of his X account; changed his job description in his profile from "SDF Commander" to "Syrian Presidential Advisor" and used a profile photo in civilian clothes for the first time.

At the end of August, Mazlum Abdi announced at a press conference held at the People's Palace in Damascus that the SDF, the structure referred to as the "Kurdish Autonomous Administration," and the military-civilian formations affiliated with them had been dissolved. Abdi had announced that these structures would be fully integrated into Syrian state institutions.
