That country has only 1 month of gasoline left

The sanctions that the US and UK will impose on Russian energy giants Lukoil and Rosneft are threatening fuel supplies in Bulgaria.

The US and UK decided last October to impose sanctions on Russia's largest oil companies, Lukoil and Rosneft, due to the war in Ukraine. The sanctions are scheduled to take effect on November 21. There are concerns that this situation will lead to disruptions in the fuel supply chain in Bulgaria.

STOCKS ARE LIMITED

According to information reported by Reuters, Minister of State Reserves Assen Asenov stated that the country's current gasoline stocks would last for 35 days, and diesel stocks for 50 days. However, Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov stated that these figures are effectively lower, noting that the current amount of fuel could only meet four to five days of consumption.

PIPELINES AND STOCKS AT A CRITICAL POINT

Energy analysts emphasized that while Bulgaria has crude oil and fuel stocks in some warehouses abroad, it is imperative that these resources be brought into the country before the sanctions take effect. According to analysts, if Lukoil's pipeline infrastructure falls under the scope of the sanctions, serious supply shortages could occur.

CONTACT WITH THE US CONTINUES

Energy Minister Stankov stated that they are in constant contact with the US Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) to ensure that the Burgas refinery can continue its operations after November 21. Stankov noted that the fuel supply in the market is currently at a sufficient level, but that developments are being closely monitored.
