The 'Kamala Harris' debate begins in the Democratic Party: Who is supporting her?

Following US President Joe Biden's announcement that he would withdraw from the presidential race to be held on November 5 and his declaration of support for Vice President Kamala Harris, there have been those who have remained silent on her candidacy alongside those who have expressed their support.

Following Biden's decision to withdraw and his statement supporting Harris, the attitudes of prominent Democrats in the US have been compiled.

Former US President Bill Clinton and his wife Hillary Clinton, in a written statement, thanked Joe Biden, noting that he had achieved great successes during his presidency, and announced their full support for US Vice President Kamala Harris.

Former US Secretary of State John Kerry also stated in a post on his X social media account that Biden deserves the gratitude of every American, adding, "For the sake of democracy, alliances, economic justice, and the future of our planet, now is the time to listen to the only person who has beaten Donald Trump and join President Biden in making Vice President Harris the next President of the United States. No citizen with a conscience should sit on the sidelines."

Senator Elizabeth Warren stated in a post on her X social media account that Biden has achieved many successes in 5 years, noting that Biden defeated Trump in 2020 and gave a chance for that to happen again in 2024.

Noting that Biden's selfless attitude is a gift that should not be wasted, Warren stated, "I support Kamala Harris for President."

Democratic Representative Haley Stevens also thanked Biden for his leadership and service to the American people in a statement on her X social media account, stating that she would support Harris.

California Representative Mike Levin also stated on his X social media account that Harris is the right person to move the country forward and defeat Trump.

Delaware Representative Lisa Blunt Rochester also emphasized in a written statement that there is no better person or leader more qualified than Harris.

California Representative Salud Carbajal described Harris as "a leader who has proven herself as an important voice in the administration," stating that he is honored to fully support her as the Democratic Party's candidate in the upcoming process.

Washington Senator Patty Murray emphasized that she respects Biden's "willingness to pass the torch" and that she supports Harris one hundred percent for the presidency.

Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar also thanked Biden and expressed her excitement to support Harris as the Democratic candidate and to work with her to defeat Trump in November.

Betty Cotton, who has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to Democratic candidates from New York for years, stated that Biden made a courageous decision and that Harris would be great.

The progressive investment organization MoveOn, which invested tens of millions of dollars to support Biden, also stated that it would provide support for Harris's election. In a statement, organization director Rahna Epting said, "I believe that those who share our determination to win this election and protect our future will do everything they can to ensure Harris wins and to stop Trump."

AAPI Victory Fund founder Shekar Narasimhan has also donated millions to Democratic candidates and Biden's election campaigns. Narasimhan expressed on his X social media account that he is honored to support Harris.

The Congressional Hispanic Caucus, House Democratic Caucus Vice Chair Ted Lieu, Congressional Progressive Caucus Chair Pramila Jayapal, the Congressional Black Caucus, Biden's campaign co-chair Jim Clyburn, Delaware Senator Chris Coons, Representative Jared Huffman, Representative Hillary Scholten, California Representative Robert Garcia, Michigan Representative Debbie Dingell, Ohio Representative Emilia Sykes, California Senator Alex Padilla, California Representative Adam Schiff, Oregon Representative Val Hoyle, Representative Jamie Raskin, New Jersey Representative Andy Kim, Hawaii Senator Mazie Hirono, and Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin were also among those who supported Harris.

THOSE WHO REMAINED SILENT ON SUPPORTING HARRIS

In his written statement, former US President Barack Obama stated that Biden, whom he described as one of the most important presidents in US history, was aware of the risks in this election, but did not explicitly state his support for Harris's candidacy.

Obama gave the message, "We will be navigating uncharted waters in the days ahead, but I have extraordinary confidence that our party's leaders will be able to create a process from which an outstanding nominee emerges."

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated in a post on his X social media account that it has been "an honor" to work with Biden for 22 years and expressed his willingness to work with Biden for the next 6 months.

In his post, where he stated that Biden "has achieved historic successes and restored US leadership in the world," Blinken remained silent on supporting Kamala Harris.

Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi was also among those who remained silent on supporting Harris.

In a statement on her social media account, Pelosi noted that she was grateful to Biden, using the phrase, "Biden is a patriot who has always put the country first," but avoided making a statement regarding Harris.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, in a post on her X account, stated that her duty after Biden's withdrawal from the race was to prevent the election of Republican candidate Donald Trump, while remaining silent on supporting Harris.

Senate Majority Leader Democrat Chuck Schumer, in an X post where he stated that he appreciated Biden's activities during his presidency and that his decision was "difficult," did not comment on Harris.

House Minority Leader Democrat Hakeem Jeffries also stated in a post on his X account that Biden is one of the most successful presidents in US history, assessing, "Under Biden's leadership, the country is in a better position today. We are forever grateful," but did not provide a message of support for Harris.

Democratic Senator Cory Booker, in a statement on X, expressed his gratitude for what Biden did during his presidency, but did not make an assessment regarding Harris.
