Far-right libertarian Javier Milei has won the runoff of the presidential election held in Argentina.

HE HAD SAID HE WOULD CONVERT THE CURRENCY TO THE DOLLAR

Milei, who will take office on December 10, had also become a subject of debate due to the ambitious promises he brought to the agenda during the campaign process.

According to the report in T24, Milei said during his campaign that he would close the Central Bank of Argentina and convert the country's currency from the peso to the dollar. Milei had also promised to privatize all state-owned companies that are operating at a loss.

Frequently expressing conservative policies in his campaign, Milei also caused concern among many young people in the country that Argentina would shift further to the right. Milei, who frequently expressed his affection for various policies implemented by Trump, had also stated that he was against abortion. Abortion was legalized in Argentina in 2020.

HE WANTS PRIVATIZATION IN HEALTHCARE

With policies that also bring to mind Brazil's former far-right leader Jair Bolsonaro, Milei also proposes loosening gun controls. Milei's promises include privatizing the healthcare system, significantly reducing taxes and public spending; abolishing the ministries of health, education, and environment; and loosening organ transplant laws.

He denies climate change, is skeptical about the dictatorship era, and his nickname is "the madman"

THEY CALL HIM 'THE MADMAN'

Like many far-right politicians, Milei denies climate change. The new leader of Argentina had said that climate change is a "socialist lie." On the other hand, Milei drew the reaction of millions when he questioned the consensus on the crimes committed during the 1976-1983 dictatorship period in Argentina. His own Vice President-elect, Victoria Villarruel, has also been frequently accused throughout her political career of "trying to downplay" the crimes of the dictatorship era. It is believed that as many as 30 thousand people were killed by the military regime during the dictatorship period.

Milei also has many nicknames. His supporters call him 'El Loco', meaning 'the madman', in a positive sense, while his opponents use it in a negative sense. Another nickname frequently used for him is "the wig" due to his much-discussed hairstyle. Let's move on to another one of his nicknames...

THEY GAVE HIM THE NICKNAME 'CHAINSAW'

Why do they call him "the chainsaw man"?

Milei used a chainsaw as a symbol throughout the campaign. The 53-year-old leader stated that this symbolized "cutting" bureaucracy and spending. Milei also expressed that "the chainsaw would also shatter unnecessary spending."

Milei attended various events with a chainsaw.

He used to be in a Rolling Stones cover band and became known through TV programs

HE HAD SAID "I EJACULATE EVERY 3 MONTHS"

The Argentine public came to know Milei as an economic commentator. For years on television programs, he angrily criticized the country's high inflation by shouting and using profanity.  His remarks about sex also became a hot topic from time to time; he once said on air, "Every man has his own dynamic, I ejaculate every three months."

His long sideburns, leather jacket, and singing rock songs are also features that make Milei recognizable. Milei was once in a The Rolling Stones cover band.
