TRNC President Tatar announces 'new strategy' for solution on the island: 'The Greek Cypriot leader is like a tyrant...'

President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Ersin Tatar announced that they will work toward a solution in Cyprus by developing a "new, realistic position."

Tatar, who is in New York, USA, for the 79th United Nations (UN) General Assembly meetings, explained the new efforts they are undertaking for peace on the island during a press statement at the Turkish House in New York.

Stating that he held a meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Tatar said, "I reiterated my commitment to a negotiated solution to the Secretary-General. I presented my views on how the two sides can cooperate on various issues based on equality."

Tatar stated, "I am presenting a new, realistic position that will provide a sustainable solution where two states in Cyprus can coexist in a relationship of good neighborliness and cooperation."

Expressing that they "want to look toward a future based on prosperity and stability," Tatar used the words, "The way to achieve this is not to insist on negotiations on an exhausted and invalid basis, but to think outside the box."

President Tatar expressed his hopes that projects such as hydrocarbon investments and water projects on the island could be carried out together with the Greek Cypriot side, and that both sides could act together against migration waves.

Tatar reiterated his message that he is always ready to meet with the Greek Cypriot side on a "sovereign and equal platform."

While calling on the international community to end human rights violations against the Turkish Cypriot people, President Ersin Tatar shared his belief that "the time has come to lift the unfair isolation imposed for the last 60 years."

Tatar said, "My struggle is to regain the fundamental human rights of my people; I will not give up."

Stating that "The Greek Cypriot leader is currently acting like a tyrant and is arresting investors in violation of international law," Ersin Tatar noted that he conveyed to UN Secretary-General Guterres that it is "unacceptable" for the courts of Southern Cyprus to issue arrest warrants for foreign investors doing business with the Turkish side.

Stating that the Greek Cypriot side wants to stop the activities of tourism agencies and restrict the travel of tour operators, Tatar emphasized that this not only harms people-to-people contact on the island but also destroys "efforts to create a suitable atmosphere" for a results-oriented dialogue.

Recalling the words of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan that a solution on a federal basis is no longer possible, the TRNC President stated that they think in the same direction.

In his press statement, TRNC President Ersin Tatar included the words, "I would like to express my most heartfelt gratitude to President Erdoğan for his remarks on the Cyprus issue during his speech at the 79th session of the UN General Assembly."

Tatar said, "The fact that the President expressed here (at the UN General Assembly) that the TRNC should be recognized and that the international community must now intensify all kinds of diplomatic, economic, and social relations with the Turkish Cypriot people has revitalized the Turkish Cypriots."

Emphasizing that the TRNC has been self-governing de facto for 61 years, Tatar shared his belief that it is necessary to stand against a federal understanding that would force the two sides into a single administration and lead to Turkey's withdrawal from the island.

Regarding Israel's attacks on Lebanon and the risk of conflicts spreading to the region, Ersin Tatar said, "When we look at its geographical location, the possibility of Cyprus also becoming a target is currently on the agenda."

Tatar noted that if a fairer world is to be established, the TRNC must also have a say in it.
