Trudeau's response to Trump: Canada will not be the 51st state

Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau responded to Trump, who addressed him as a "state governor" during a program he attended on CNN.

Responding to Trump's statement that Canada should be the 51st state of the US by saying, "That is not going to happen," Trudeau argued that the real issue between the two countries is regulations regarding customs duties.

Trudeau stated that the US is a power that could harm the Canadian economy, but if Canadian products are blocked by additional customs duties, American consumers will also suffer as a result.

The Canadian Prime Minister spoke as follows:

"Canadians are very proud of being Canadian. One of the easiest ways we define ourselves is that we are not American. Anything the US President does to harm the Canadian economy will also harm American consumers. If we work together, we do better; I am sure of that."

US President-elect Trump, in his statement the other day, reiterated his remarks that Canada should be the 51st state of the US, saying, "We have more than them and we don't need anything of theirs. So why are we losing 200 billion dollars a year to protect Canada?"
