Trump announces duration of Greenland deal: Responds to Putin question

US President Donald Trump answered questions from members of the press following the World Economic Forum held in Davos, Switzerland.

Responding to a question regarding the scope of the planned deal concerning Greenland, Trump stated, "This is a deal that people accept immediately, it is a truly great deal for the US. It provides everything we want, including, in particular, national security and international security."

"NO TIME LIMIT, FOREVER"

Emphasizing that the deal is of a nature to satisfy all parties, Trump said, "It is a final, comprehensive, long-term deal, and I think it will put everyone in a very good and advantageous position, especially in terms of security, minerals, and all other topics." Addressing the issue of duration, Trump declared, "It is indefinite. There is no time limit. Forever."

RESPONSE TO PUTIN QUESTION

When reminded of concerns regarding Russia's potential moves toward Greenland, Trump was asked, "Then why did you invite Russian President Vladimir Putin to the Gaza Peace Council?" In response, Trump said, "Because we want everyone, all countries, to participate. This way, we will never have problems. This is the strongest and most comprehensive council ever established; everyone wants to be part of this structure. Yes, there are some controversial names, but the individuals in question are deal-makers and people with high influence."

A SEPARATE AND SPECIAL STRUCTURE FROM THE UN

Stating that results could not be achieved if the Gaza Peace Council consisted of ineffective names, Trump said, "There were those who were invited, and they accepted. Many people accepted; as far as I know, there are no rejections. This structure will be very successful. I think the Peace Council will be the most prestigious council in history. It will realize many tasks that the United Nations should have done but could not. We will work with the United Nations, but the Peace Council will be in a separate and special position."

STATEMENT ON PEACE IN THE MIDDLE EAST AND NUCLEAR THREAT

Expressing his belief that the council will be successful, Trump said, "The process started with Gaza and the Middle East. There is peace in the Middle East; and a peace as strong as no one thought possible. This was made possible by the elimination of Iran's nuclear threat; otherwise, it could not have happened. This council will be truly impressive, and I believe it will be the most prestigious council in world history."

NATO MEETING AND CUSTOMS TARIFFS

Trump had also touched upon his meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Davos earlier. In his statement following the meeting, he had said, "Based on the very constructive meeting I held with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, we have established the framework for a future deal regarding Greenland and, in fact, the entire Arctic Region. Within the framework of this agreement, I will not implement the customs tariffs planned to go into effect on February 1."
