Trump announces that the last US troops in Iraq have left the country

US President Donald Trump announced that the last American soldiers in Iraq have left the country. In his social media post, Trump stated that the decision was a "great day" for both the US and Iraq.

In his statement, Trump expressed that the US left Iraq alongside the new Prime Minister, Ali al-Zaydi, whom he said he had "supported from the beginning." Trump, who argued that al-Zaydi won an election he was not expected to win by an "overwhelming majority," reiterated his support for the new prime minister.

Stating that Operation Inherent Resolve, which began in 2003 during the George W. Bush era and continued under the Barack Obama and Joe Biden administrations, ended under his own administration, Trump said the withdrawal was completed in an orderly fashion via Erbil Air Base.

Today is a victory for America, a victory for Iraq, and a definitive victory against ISIS. ISIS was completely neutralized during the first term of the Trump administration, along with other evil and dangerous elements.

In his statement, Trump also referred to the withdrawal process from Afghanistan, arguing that the departure from Iraq was conducted in an orderly manner regarding military equipment and coalition elements. The US President stated that he did not allow the military presence in Iraq to become permanent.

In his post, Trump said, "I set a clear mission, and I provided our commanders with the necessary means to complete it." The US President added, "We came to fight a caliphate. There is no caliphate anymore. We are coming home."
