Trump dismisses Attorney General

U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi has resigned from her position.

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, who faced criticism from political parties in the U.S. due to her performance in investigations regarding the American billionaire Jeffrey Epstein, who was accused of establishing a sexual abuse network, has resigned. In a statement released on his social media account regarding the matter, U.S. President Trump said, "Pam Bondi is a great American patriot and a loyal friend. She has served as my Attorney General with great dedication over the past year. Pam has done a tremendous job in going after criminals across the country, and murder rates have fallen to their lowest level since 1900. We love Pam, and she will be transitioning to an important position in the private sector where she is much needed, which will be announced in the near future."

In his statement, Trump also added, "In the meantime, our Deputy Attorney General and highly respected jurist Todd Blanche will serve as Acting Attorney General."

Until the moment he announced Bondi's departure, U.S. President Trump had frequently praised her, describing her as a "wonderful person" and saying she had "done a good job" as Attorney General.

Bondi had testified before the U.S. Congress

Pam Bondi, who served as Attorney General for 14 months, was described as the "worst attorney general in U.S. history" during her testimony before the U.S. Congress last February regarding the Epstein file. She was accused of exposing the names of sexual abuse victims while censoring the names of abusers and suspects in approximately three million documents released by the Department of Justice. Bondi had faced calls for resignation because not a single abuser had been held accountable despite the millions of documents released in the Epstein files.

Democratic Congressman Ted Lieu had harshly criticized Pam Bondi during the hearing for the Department of Justice not pursuing sexual abuse offenders regarding the Epstein documents, stating, "There are over a thousand sexual abuse victims, and you haven't forced a single person to be held accountable. If you have even a shred of morality, you would resign."

Bondi's accusation of antisemitism against Democratic Congresswoman Becca Balint, who pressed her during the hearing regarding U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick's relationship with Epstein, also caused many to be surprised and react to the situation.

Bondi became the second person to leave the Trump administration

Attorney General Bondi became the second high-level figure to leave the Trump administration recently. On March 5, Trump had dismissed Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, who was the target of criticism due to her policies on immigrants.

More than 3 million documents related to Epstein had been released

American businessman Jeffrey Epstein, who played a role as a kind of facilitator among politicians, financiers, scientists, and high-profile social circles in America and Europe before the sexual abuse scandal, had ended his life by committing suicide in his prison cell in 2019 after being arrested on charges of sex trafficking.

Trump, who had a friendship with Epstein, had stated that he had parted ways with Epstein long before he faced charges of prostitution and sex trafficking.

Following the pressure from the U.S. public regarding the release of the Epstein documents, a law regarding the publication of the documents was passed in November with the support of both the Republican and Democratic parties, and more than 3 million documents were released, revealing the dark relationships Epstein had established with many well-known names in the Western world.
