Trump: 'I have ordered a military operation against the Houthis'... Will the US launch a ground offensive?

US President Donald Trump stated that they have launched attacks against Houthi groups in Yemen and that the operation will continue with 'overwhelming force until their goals are achieved.' In his statement, Trump also sent a message to Iran, calling on the Tehran administration to end its support for Houthi groups. The US President stated that Iran's activities in the region must come to an end. Trump did not provide details regarding the scope and targets of the operations.

Social media accounts close to the Houthis confirmed that 31 people were killed and 13 others were injured in an airstrike conducted by the US on a house in the Kahza region, north of Saada. It was emphasized that 4 children and 1 woman were among those who lost their lives.

According to Yemen's official news agency SABA, 31 people lost their lives in the airstrikes carried out by the US and the UK in Yemen, while the number of injured rose to at least 23. It was stated that a fire broke out in Kahza as a result of the airstrikes and that numerous medical teams were dispatched to the area.

In a statement on March 7, the Houthis indicated that they had given Israel a 4-day deadline to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza. Officials announced that if this deadline expires, they will resume maritime operations against Israel.

Making a statement via the Truth Social platform, Trump stated that the US had launched an attack on Yemen and used the following expressions:

''Today, I have ordered the United States Military to launch a decisive and powerful military operation against the Houthi terrorists in Yemen. We will use overwhelming force until we achieve our goal. To all Houthi terrorists: Your time is up. Your attacks must stop as of today. If they do not stop, you will face a hell like you have never seen before.''

HOUTHI ATTACKS IN THE RED SEA

The Houthis were known as a group supported by Iran. Following the start of Israel's attacks on Gaza on October 7, 2023, the Houthis began targeting ships of countries trading with Israel in the Red Sea.

The Houthis' operations in the Red Sea caused countries trading with Israel to suffer billions of dollars in losses. The coalition formed by Israel, the UK, and the US bombed Yemen upon the start of the Red Sea attacks. With the ceasefire agreement reached between Israel and Hamas on January 19, the attacks on Yemen were also halted.

Drawing attention to the close relationship between Iran and the Houthis, Trump claimed that Tehran 'should not be influential' in the region. Trump blamed the Houthis for the disruption of trade in the Red Sea but did not provide information on 'how the attack on Yemen will continue.'

'WE WILL USE OVERWHELMING AND LETHAL FORCE'

Underlining that the attacks on Yemen will continue, Trump called on the Houthis to stop their attacks. The Houthis reported that their attacks 'will not continue for now' within the scope of the ceasefire reached between Israel and Hamas. Before the US attack on Yemen, Trump announced that 'very important developments' would take place regarding Iran and that 'everyone will hear about it.'

Pointing out that the US will continue its attacks against the Houthis, Trump noted the following in his statement:

''Today, I ordered the United States Military to launch a decisive and powerful military action against the Houthi terrorists in Yemen. They have waged a relentless campaign of piracy, violence, and terrorism against American and other ships, aircraft, and unmanned aerial vehicles.

Joe Biden's response was pathetically weak, so the unbridled Houthis continued. It has been more than a year since a US-flagged commercial ship safely passed through the Suez Canal, the Red Sea, or the Gulf of Aden. The last American Warship to pass through the Red Sea was attacked more than a dozen times by the Houthis four months ago. The Houthi thugs, funded by Iran, fired missiles at US aircraft and targeted our Soldiers and Allies. These relentless attacks have cost the US and the World Economy billions of dollars, while also putting innocent lives at risk.

The Houthis' attacks on American ships will not be tolerated. We will use overwhelming lethal force until we achieve our goal. The Houthis have blocked shipping in one of the World's most important Waterways, halted vast areas of Global Trade, and attacked the fundamental principle of Freedom of Navigation upon which International Trade and Commerce rely.

Our brave Warriors are currently conducting airstrikes on the terrorists' bases, leaders, and missile defenses to protect American shipping, air, and naval assets and to restore Freedom of Navigation. No terrorist force will be able to prevent American commercial and naval vessels from sailing freely in the World's Waterways.

To all Houthi terrorists, your time is up and your attacks must stop as of today. If they do not stop, hell will rain down upon you like nothing you have ever seen before. To Iran: The support given to Houthi terrorists must end immediately! Do not threaten the American people, their President who has received one of the greatest mandates in Presidential History, or shipping lines around the World. If you do, beware, because America will hold you fully accountable and we will not be kind about it.''
