Trump: If Canada becomes the 51st state, you won't have to worry about many things
During a visit to North Carolina, which suffered major damage from Hurricane Helene last year, U.S. President Donald Trump reiterated his desire for Canada to become a state, saying, "If that happens, Canadian citizens would get a massive tax cut, and you wouldn't have to worry about the military. You wouldn't have to worry about a lot of things."

U.S. President Donald Trump, accompanied by his wife Melania Trump, visited the state of North Carolina, which was heavily damaged by Hurricane Helene last year. During his visit, Trump made statements criticizing the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
"WE ARE GOING TO REVERSE THIS"
Stating that he is considering taking steps to ensure that states, rather than the federal government, lead disaster relief efforts in the future, Trump said, "We are reviewing the whole concept of FEMA. Frankly, I like the concept of the governor handling it when North Carolina gets hit. When Florida gets hit, the governor handles it. So the state handles it. Having a group of people come in from a region who don't even know where they are going to solve a problem immediately is something that just doesn't work for me."
Noting that "in the future, disaster relief will go through us," Trump added, "So instead of going through FEMA, it will go through us. I think this is a good place to start. Because, to give credit to the governor and everyone else, FEMA didn't handle this well, and we are going to reverse that."
"WE ARE LOSING 200 BILLION DOLLARS A YEAR"
In his speech, Trump also touched upon Canada joining the U.S., promising Canadians a "massive tax cut" and "much better health insurance" if it were to happen. Noting that if Canada were to become the 51st state of the U.S., they would not need to worry about the military, Trump said, "We are losing 200 billion dollars a year with Canada. That's because we let them make cars, we let them buy lumber. We don't need their cars, we don't need their lumber, we don't need their food products, because we produce the same products on the other side of the border."
Emphasizing that he really wants Canada to become the 51st state, Trump said, "If that happens, Canadian citizens would get a massive tax cut, and you wouldn't have to worry about the military, you wouldn't have to worry about a lot of things. You would have better health coverage. You would have much better health coverage. I think the people of Canada would like that, of course, if it were announced."
